Road Trip Essentials
By Hardeep Sidhu
The last long weekend before school starts is finally here! You didn’t make any plans but want to get away for the long weekend. Well hop into your car and drive to some of the beautiful gems of B.C.. You can make that four-five hour drive to Kelowna or Osoyoos, and if you are really daring drive nine hours to Golden or Nelson. But before you venture onto the road, here are a few things you might need:
• GPS
• Maps (for those of you who detest GPS)
• Check for the latest updates on highway weather patterns or of any evacuations due to the forest fires
• Review your car insurance and ensure you have roadside assistance. RoadStar members get free insurance on their car rentals, but confirm this with ICBC first!
• Do a general check of your car (oil, tires, & brake fluid)
• Extra set of keys
• Water
• Flashlight
• First aid kit
• Playlist of your favourite songs
• Cooler (in case you don’t like to eat out all the time)
If you have kids:
• Coloring books and crayons
• Books
• Toys
• Favourite DVD of their movie or documentary
• Bucket (for motion sickness- might also come in handy for the parents too!)
The most fun things about taking road trips with friends and family are the conversations, the laughter, and the beautiful landscape that passes you by. Be patient on the road and stay in the right lane unless you need to pass the car ahead of you.
Be safe and happy long weekend!
